DRAMAS OF LIFE

31 July, 2017

Introduction

Life is full of dramas. It is inevitable. We are in the world and there is an enemy like a roaring lion seeking whom he can deceive or devour.
A classic example is the life of King David...full of astonishing dramas! These scriptural scenes are an amazing eye-opener  as to how King David fought his battles by bringing them to the Lord. Here is David's stunning journey with his battle of the dramas of his life and how God turned David's battle to victory.

Scene I: My Cry
I pray to you, O Lord, my rock.
    Do not turn a deaf ear to me.
For if you are silent,
    I might as well give up and die.
Listen to my prayer for mercy
    as I cry out to you for help,
    as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary.

(Psalm 28:1-2)

Hear me as I pray, O LORD.
    Be merciful and answer me!

Do not turn your back on me.
    Do not reject your servant in anger.
    You have always been my helper.
Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me,
    O God of my salvation!
Even if my father and mother abandon me,
    the LORD will hold me close.

Teach me how to live, O LORD.
    Lead me along the right path,
    for my enemies are waiting for me.
Do not let me fall into their hands.
    For they accuse me of things I’ve never done;
    with every breath they threaten me with violence.
Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
    while I am here in the land of the living.

(Psalm 27:7, 9-13)

Scene II: His Response
Wait patiently for the LORD.
    Be brave and courageous.
    Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.

(Psalm 27:14)

Scene III: My Cry
O LORD, I have come to you for protection;
    don’t let me be disgraced.
    Save me, for you do what is right.
Turn your ear to listen to me;
    rescue me quickly.
Be my rock of protection,
    a fortress where I will be safe.
You are my rock and my fortress.
    For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.
Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me,
    for I find protection in you alone.
I entrust my spirit into your hand.
    Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.

(Psalm 31:1-5)

Scene IV: His Response
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”

(Psalm 27:8)

Scene V: My Cry
O LORD, oppose those who oppose me.
    Fight those who fight against me.
Put on your armor, and take up your shield.
    Prepare for battle, and come to my aid.
Lift up your spear and javelin
    against those who pursue me.
Let me hear you say,
    “I will give you victory!”

I did them no wrong, but they laid a trap for me.
    I did them no wrong, but they dug a pit to catch me.

But they are glad now that I am in trouble;
    they gleefully join together against me.
I am attacked by people I don’t even know;
    they slander me constantly.

They don’t talk of peace;
    they plot against innocent people who mind their own business.
They shout, “Aha! Aha!
    With our own eyes we saw him do it!”

O LORD, you know all about this.
    Do not stay silent.
    Do not abandon me now, O Lord.
Wake up! Rise to my defense!
    Take up my case, my God and my Lord.
Declare me not guilty, O Lord my God, for you give justice.
    Don’t let my enemies laugh about me in my troubles.
Don’t let them say, “Look, we got what we wanted!
    Now we will eat him alive!”

(Psalm 35:1-3, 7, 15, 20-25)

Scene VI: His Response
Don’t worry about the wicked
    or envy those who do wrong.
For like grass, they soon fade away.
    Like spring flowers, they soon wither.

Trust in the LORD and do good.
    Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
Take delight in the LORD,
    and he will give you your heart’s desires.

Commit everything you do to the LORD.
    Trust him, and he will help you.
He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
    and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

Be still in the presence of the LORD,
    and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
    or fret about their wicked schemes.

Soon the wicked will disappear.
    Though you look for them, they will be gone.
The lowly will possess the land
    and will live in peace and prosperity.

The wicked plot against the godly;
    they snarl at them in defiance.
But the Lord just laughs,
    for he sees their day of judgment coming.

(Psalm 37:1-7, 10-13)

Scene VII: My Cry
I take joy in doing your will, my God,
    for your instructions are written on my heart.”

I have told all your people about your justice.
    I have not been afraid to speak out,
    as you, O LORD, well know.
I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart;
    I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power.
I have told everyone in the great assembly
    of your unfailing love and faithfulness.

LORD, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me.
    Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me.
For troubles surround me—
    too many to count!
My sins pile up so high
    I can’t see my way out.
They outnumber the hairs on my head.
    I have lost all courage.

Please, LORD, rescue me!
    Come quickly, Lord, and help me.
May those who try to destroy me
    be humiliated and put to shame.
May those who take delight in my trouble
    be turned back in disgrace.

(Psalm 40:8-14)

Scene VIII: His Response
Put your hope in the LORD.
    Travel steadily along his path.
He will honor you by giving you the land.
    You will see the wicked destroyed.

(Psalm 37:34)

Scene IX: My Cry
I know you are pleased with me,
    for you have not let my enemies triumph over me.
You have preserved my life because I am innocent;
    you have brought me into your presence forever.

Praise the LORD, the God of Israel,
    who lives from everlasting to everlasting.
Amen and amen!

(Psalm 41:11-13)

Conclusion
The scenes are fierce and tender.
A scene of a father and son relationship.
A scene of a father's love and protection.
A scene of a son's dependency on his father.
A scene of brokenness and pain.
A scene of hopeless turned hope.

I had my own share of dramas in life. Yet, this I confidently stand on:

"The very moment I call to you for a Father's HELP,
    the tide of battle turns and enemies flee!
    The one thing I know:
    GOD IS ON MY SIDE!"         Psalm 56:9 (TPT)
